THE STANDARD
Scendent is built for young people trying to become more than they were told they could be. That only works if the space is safe.
These guidelines apply everywhere Scendent operates — the website, our social channels, workshops, events, programmes, and any communication with us.
The S-Code is how we ask people to show up. This page is what happens when they don't.
1. HOW WE EXPECT PEOPLE TO SHOW UP
- Respect people. Disagree with the idea, not the person.
- Look after each other. If someone's struggling, point them to help. Tell us if you're worried.
- Be real. Be yourself, not a version of someone else.
- Protect what's shared. What someone tells you in a session, in a comment, or in a message is theirs.
- Lift, don't tear down. That's the whole point.
2. WHAT WE WON'T TOLERATE
Harm to people
- Harassment, bullying, intimidation, stalking or threats
- Hate speech or discrimination based on ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age or any other characteristic
- Sexual harassment, unwanted sexual attention, or sexual content directed at anyone
- Any sexual content involving, or sexualising, a person under 18 — this is reported to NZ Police immediately, without warning, without exception
- Grooming behaviour, or attempting to move a young person to private, unmonitored contact
- Encouraging or glorifying suicide, self-harm, disordered eating, or substance abuse
- Doxxing — publishing anyone's personal information without consent
- Sharing intimate images without consent
Harm to trust
- Impersonating Scendent, our people, or anyone else
- Sharing what another person disclosed in a workshop or a private space
- Publishing screenshots of private conversations without consent
- Deliberate misinformation, especially about mental health or crisis services
- Presenting yourself as a Scendent representative, facilitator or advocate when you aren't
Harm to the platform
- Anything illegal under New Zealand law
- Malware, viruses, or malicious code
- Scraping, spidering or systematically harvesting Site content — including the Directory of Help
- Attempting to breach security, access other accounts, or probe our systems
- Automated access, bots, or artificial inflation of traffic or engagement
- Fraudulent orders, payment fraud, or abuse of returns and refunds
- Spam, phishing, or unsolicited commercial messaging
- Using our platform to promote your business, product, service, cause or belief without permission
- Infringing our intellectual property or anyone else's
3. TALKING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH SAFELY
Our community talks about hard things. That's deliberate. But how we talk about them matters, because the wrong framing can hurt someone who's already struggling.
Please:
- Use safe messaging — talk about struggle and recovery, not method or detail
- Add a content note before heavy material
- Speak from your own experience rather than diagnosing others
- Point people toward professional help rather than trying to be it
Please don't:
- Describe methods of suicide or self-harm
- Share graphic detail of trauma without warning
- Present suicide as a solution, a relief, or a way to be understood
- Give clinical advice, or tell someone what treatment they should be on
- Offer to be someone's crisis support — you can't hold that, and it isn't fair to either of you
If you're worried about someone in our community, tell us at scendentofficial@gmail.com. If someone is in immediate danger, call 111.
4. WHAT WE'LL DO
Depending on severity and history:
| Response | When |
|---|---|
| Content removed | Minor breach |
| Warning | First or minor breach |
| Temporary suspension | Repeat or moderate breach |
| Permanent ban and account termination | Serious or persistent breach |
| Removal from a session without refund | Breach at an event |
| Report to NZ Police or Oranga Tamariki | Illegal content, or risk to a child |
Serious breaches skip straight to the end. Anything involving harm to a young person, sexual content involving minors, credible threats, or illegal activity results in immediate permanent removal and a report to the appropriate authority. There is no warning and no second chance for those.
We moderate as best we can, but we don't pre-screen everything and we may not catch it all. That's not consent — report it and we'll act.
5. APPEALS
If you think we got it wrong, email scendentofficial@gmail.com within 14 days with what happened and why you disagree.
A person not involved in the original decision reviews it. We aim to respond within 10 working days. That decision is final.
Exception: decisions involving child safety are not subject to appeal through this process.
6. REPORTING SOMETHING
Everything comes to scendentofficial@gmail.com. Start your subject line with the tag below so we can route it fast.
| What | Subject line |
|---|---|
| Community guideline breach | REPORT |
| Concern about a child or young person | SAFEGUARDING |
| Privacy concern | PRIVACY |
| Someone in immediate danger | Call 111 — do not email |
| Suspected abuse or neglect | Oranga Tamariki 0508 326 459 |
We aim to acknowledge reports within 2 working days, and within 24 hours for safeguarding.
Report in good faith and you're protected. Nobody faces any consequence from us for raising a genuine concern, even if it turns out to be unfounded.
7. YOUR CONTENT
If you post, submit or share content with us:
- You keep ownership of it
- You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use it in connection with our work
- You confirm it's yours to share and doesn't infringe anyone's rights
- You can ask us to stop using it at any time and we will, for anything we control
We may remove any content at our discretion. We're not obliged to keep, back up, or restore anything.
